what does 'unable to seek to tile location on disk: 22' mean ?

i assume it's to do with having reached tile cache limits ?

preference settings are tile cache 258mg
temp dir is /home/sam/.gimp-1.2tmp
swap dir/home/sam/.gimp-1.2

is there any way to optimise this ?

No. It could mean that you are running out of disk space or that you hit a bug in gimp-1.2. What version are you using?

1.2.3, i think you're right though and its disk space. i've worked out how to make an mpeg in gimp with xaos renedered animation files. took me a week but really works :)i'll write it up later. i'm still trying to work out how to make a multilayerd xcf into an mpeg.
