[camp-announce] Camp Wiki and Volunteers Day

hi, i got this great email from the ccc camp announce list, it shows the excitment that TheGIMP and the GimpTent are causing on the wiki, or at Camp, how ever you perfer to approach this project.

it took only a little time to figure it out. it is a simple markup and syntax. there is help links, i used them. i got the chance to show off that i had read the documentation when others who should have hadn't. i always am looking for opportunity like this :)

please, feel free to help me there. i am trying to work out smart navigation through the different wiki topics that relate to TheGIMP and show off the user goods at the same time.

there are samples of slideshows and polling. this wiki is good fun, once you work through a few ideas there and get the hang of it.

i am interested in replacing the cheesy wiki slideshow buttons with something much nicer made from the gimp. i don't know how windowsy the ccc people are, would be nice if all the graphics on gimp pages were made by gimp though ....

please, come help at Camp|CampWiki! carol

Chaos Communication Camp 2003, First Update 16.05.2003 ======================================================

Hello everybody,

the Camp organization is coming along quite well. Although we still busy figuring out many details, we are making progress. For instance, significant progress has been made in the area of Internet access. More on this once we have made the deals bullet-proof.

CampWiki --------
The CampWiki has drawn a lot of attention already. Almost 400 upcoming Camp visitors have signed up and there are more joining daily. Many projects have already laid out their plans what they want to do at the Camp and are soliciting feedback and cooperation on the respective pages. Please sign up as well if you plan to come!

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/

Registration System -------------------
Right now we are working on our registation system allowing you to register for the Camp and to prepay afterwards. The registration process will also garantuee you your personal unique nickname at the Camp, that will serve as a central login scheme for many services (have a look at the BlackHole project in CampWiki).

Prepayment will be crucial to us: we need lots of money in advance and prepaying is very, very important to us. We are still calculating if we can provide some kind of rebate for a limited time. Stay tuned on this. However, there will be no reduced fare for groups, independent of size.

Call For Papers ---------------
Please note that our Call For Papers is available online and we are still looking for people willing to give an interesting talk at the Camp.

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/Camp/view/Main/CallForPapers

Please read the general introduction to our conference at

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/Camp/view/Main/CampConference

Volunteers Day --------------
Most important: On May 24th we are staging the Volunteers Day. Please join us if want to help at the Camp. We are going to do an on-site meeting and talk about the current planning of the Camp.

Projects --------
Many interesting visitor-driven projects are shaping up. Get an overview at

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/Camp/view/Main/CampProjects

Most notably, there will the "GIMP Developers Conference" taking place at the Camp. Working hard on the code and rumors has it that TheGIMP 2.0 sees the light of day at the Chaos Communication Camp! And of course, the future direction of the software and its architecture will be a hot issue at the Camp. There will be a dedicated tent joining the Gimp community.

In addition, the AVIT VJ community is about to stage a workshop weekend at the Camp. Calling for visual artists to join the activity.

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/Camp/view/Main/OpenAirVIT

And of course, there will be a 24 hour FM radio station at the Camp. RadioSubEther is open for cooperation and collaboration. See

https://wiki.camp.ccc.de/Camp/view/Main/RadioSubEther

Villages and Tents ------------------

We are about to group the Camp into "villages" to give some kind of geographical orientation based on topics. There are already quite a few villages under development.

A "village" can be any size, but it should have some kind of focus. The will be a RadioVillage around Radio SubEther and the Art&Beauty Village is grouping many arts-related projects. There is a BSD village shaping up and interest has been voiced to bring support to a Crypto Village.

If you think there is something missing, voice your support. A village is nothing really "official". If you think, you can get something going and group a bunch of focused people around a topic and maybe even offer workshops in your own tent, make yourself heard in our Wiki which is the central place for collaboration.

Contact -------

by Email:
For general questions: contact@camp.ccc.de To offer a lecture: content@camp.ccc.de

You can also get me and other by Instant Messaging. Check our personal pages in the Wiki system.

And so on ---------
We know we have been quite quiet so far. If you have some experience with the CCC, you know this normal :-)

However, we are going to be much louder right now and you can expect more updates to come in in ever-decreasing time spans.

So please review the content in our wiki system and do contribute your stuff there as well. Talk to other people who want to come to the Camp and make them join the system as well.

CampWiki is where the Camp is already happening :-)
