Hello:
In Lightroom I was able to have a "directory" to choose from such as Vacation 2017, or Vacation 2018.
The pictures in these folders were indexed down the left side of the screen. Stored in a separate hard drive.
Does Gimp have a similar directory, even though the photos are stored in a separate hard drive?
Regards,
Gord

GIMP doesn’t really have any sort of photo management functionality built in (not should it in my opinion).
You could try a photo manager like digiKam. On Fri, Aug 10, 2018 at 3:33 PM Gordon Caines wrote:

In the GIMP file chooser - at least on Linux - you can add to the places shown on the left-hand side.
There's no thumbnail browser builtin to GIMP though. Maybe it'd make a good add-on. the GNOME file chooser will display thumbnails and you can drag them into GIMP to open the image. In the gnome image viewer (depending on gnome version) you can also tag images and select images by tag. There's also Shotwell, a photo manager for Linux systems.
If you're using a Mac i've no idea, sorry.

Just as another option for PC, Mac, or Linux is XnView/XnViewMP.
It's a great image viewer/organizer/converter and would use it regardless, but you can configure multiple programs to open an image in and then access them by shortcuts. When I find an image I want to open in gimp I just hit "Alt+1" and it opens gimp if not already open, or opens image in a new tab.
It also has the added benefit of decent support for xcf thumbnails so you can browse your gimp files, and it's free for personal use. (No ads or nags)

There used to be a photo management plug-in for GIMP but it was dropped in favour of the management features of the operating system and support for dragging and dropping in to GIMP.
