How obtain & install help locally under macOS?

I’ve installed GIMP 2.8.22 under macOS High Sierra (10.13.2) directly from https://www.gimp.org/downloads/ .

How exactly do I…

(1) download the (English) help system for local installation (what’s the exact URL?); and then

(2) install that download into GIMP? (Is it a .pkg file, or what; if not a .pkg file, what do I do - put it where?)

We don't have up-to-date builds of the help system for macOS yet. It's on our TODO list.
