layer mode missing

running 2.8.20 in Win 10. Want to do overlay. Mode option missing from Layer list.

Do you mean that:
The whole of the 'Mode' bar top of the layers is missing; as 1 in screenshot
or
There is a particular mode that you want but can not find in the drop down menu; as 2 in screenshot

I was looking for Mode within the list. With my bad eyesight I didn't notice it was a pulldown list at the top. Thanx for your reply.
