potential new GIMP user and plugin for Canon .CRW extensions.

Re my previous message asking about a plugin for Canon RAW files (i.e. .CRW extensions) I forgot to mention that I am using Windows 10.

Regards,

Peter.

afaik, there is no "plugin". you need to get a conversion utility such as dcraw that will hand off the converted "raw" file to gimp. I personally use dcraw but on linux and have no idea what will work on windows.

There’s a list of various photography related projects available at: https://pixls.us/software/

On Win10, for a new user, I’d suggest something like RawTherapee ( http://www.rawtherapee.com/) to process your raw files. You can send them to GIMP once you’re done for any further processing you’d like to do.

gud luk,

I'm amused by the idea of no plugin - been using ufraw in 2.8 for some years. But 2.8 is, of course, only 8-bit. For larger bit depths in 2.9 I have recently tried PhFGimp (gimp plugin for PhotoFlow). And this list has in the last few months had mention of nufraw (a fork of ufraw, when mentioned on the list a fix to compile it against recent 2.9 was mentioned - I haven't tried it yet).

But for windows users, probably it will be easiest to use Partha's builds of the gimp (2.9) (I don't have a link) which I think include both nufraw for the plugin and g'mic for its extra filters.

Canon makes "Canon Photo Professional" to open up their raw files. Works on my *.CR2 files.
