How to add text NEXT TO an image

How can I add a text box NEXT TO an image, or alternatively tile two separate images next to each other, one containing the original image and one the text.

Appreciate your help

* Image>Canvas size and increase the width of the canvas to make space for the additional text
* Add the text layer
* Maye add a new background layer below the image layer to fill the whole canvas.
