Some time ago I received a similar message from gimp-developer-list. I was a little confused (and suspicious) since I have never received such a message from gimp-user-list. (Incidentally, I have not received any messages from gimp-developer-list since then; maybe it was legit.)

Can anyone share further information about this?

IDK ATM. I am in central WV, much of which has been either in the dark for the last 15 hours, or listening to standby generator, which I have, a 20kw nat gas automatic. It started at about 3:22 this morning, and finally shut down for the last time about 18:07 this evening.

I got one yesterday threatening to remove me if I got one more bounce. For 1, count 'em (according to the message) bounce. Hello, this is the internet folks, stuff happens!

IMO the one bounce and you're out sucks dead toads thru soda straws, particularly in view of the worsening infrastructure of the US in the last 20 years.

I am on shentel.net for both internet and phone, did that several years ago when verizon's old copper got so bad I was out of a phone for all but 2 weeks of the first 4 months of the year, and verizon had the unmitigated gaul to get their knickers in a knot over my "harrassing" them by calling the P.U.C., which can lean on them legally if they have to. At that point I didn't have, nor could I find, a quarter to call somebody that cared as I damned sure didn't when a working phone is part of a COPD victims (my wife) lifeline. Shentel is doing their email server someplace in the "cloud" and its scary fast, so I've no clue why they would ever bounce a mailing list message addressed to me.

But this msg even though my filters seem to have missfired, is being CC:'d back to the list just to see if I have well and truly been un-subscribed.

I wish I knew what their reasoning is. But those people can't be bothered to respond to a list member, beneath their dignity or ???

It went out of here addressed to you, and CC:d to the list. And I now have 2 copies of it from the list, only one of which shows it was To: the list.

It didn't leave here addressed To: the list. To: you, and CC:'d to the list, but this discussion is overshadowing my complaint.

It's "one more bounce". Meaning that you have had many of them before - so you could go check the list archives and see how many of the messages you didn't receive, and then ask your mail provide why you didn't receive them.

Also, you are alternating between different sender addresses - @shentel.net and @wdtv.com. The latter is not subscribed to the gimp-user mailing lists and ends up in the moderation queue.

That is an automatic 30 minute phone call because I have to convince each flunky answering the phone that I need to talk to someone about an email problem. There is at least 4 layers of useless dweebs before I get to someone who at least knows what fetchmail or linux is. I only make that call when things are really stuffed.

That is not what the server message says. The server's message always says one bounce, and quotes the bounced message, the frequency of the messages is about monthly. The bounce score in the message is under 2%. And yet I am being threatened with an automatic ubsubscribe? It doesn't figure.

Also, you are alternating between different sender addresses - @shentel.net and @wdtv.com. The latter is not subscribed to the gimp-user mailing lists and ends up in the moderation queue.

That should not have happened as my account on that server has been removed, but to be sure I just removed the wdtv.com from the sending choices so it can't "catch me up".

Thanks.

Gene has forwarded a list membership warning mail sent from a mailing list server at SourceForge, which manages the gimp-print-devel

As you have correctly stated, we maintain the gimp lists on the mail.gnome.org server, and so can't do anything about the SF list configuration.

P.S. The message also contains a list membership password - which has been changed by now, I hope?

By the same one, on gnome.org.

gimp-print-devel@, however, is a mailing list by a 3rd party project. It's also a somewhat outdated mailing list name, because the project has been known as Gutenprint for quite a long time now.

Well, this is a different mailing list. On a different list server.

So gimp-user-list and gimp-developer-list (both @gnome.org) are processed by different servers?

That does seem odd, at first, but IIRC I did have to register on it separately....

I probably should, but with a pw that short, I am still grappling with the fact that it doesn't appear to have ever been hacked in the nominally decade I've been subbed to that list. OTOH, that list or myself are "low value" targets I guess. In any event, its an automatically generated pw, one that needs to be 3 or 4x longer before any claims about pw security are claimed.

By the same one, on gnome.org.

gimp-print-devel@, however, is a mailing list by a 3rd party project. It's also a somewhat outdated mailing list name, because the project has been known as Gutenprint for quite a long time now.

Humm, is there now a Gutenprint-devel list? Perhaps thats the one I should be "copying"?

Thanks.

No, there isn't one. I only pointed that out because the lists's name might confuse someone into thinking that the list is maintained by GIMP developers. The Gutenprint team did not complete the rebranding for some reason, so there are some "loose ends" (if I may say so).
