Appearance of selection border

When I draw or change a selection, the border is shown as a triple line (a solid white line surrounded by grey lines on both sides). Only when I finish the selection, the border turns to "marching ants".
Is there a setting to change the selection border to a single line of just one pixel?

I find it hard to select an area exactly with the triple line, since one cannot tell if the mouse points is in the intended position or one pixel off.
