Isolating an image

Hi,

I have spent about 4 hours trying to figure out a problem. I am creating videos that will use a comic book theme. I need to add dialogue bubbles, text boxes to the video.

I have tried numerous times to create the bubble and then completely remove the background so that only the stylized bubble remains. No matter how much I try, I can't get rid of the space around the bubble. For example, a round dialogue bubble simply shows up as a round bubble on a rectangular background.

How do I get of that rectangular background even though it is supposed to be transparent after I modify it?

I have tried Layers, etc.

I have seen about a dozen 'Remove background vids on You Tube" but to no avail.

I have tried to verify by opening the "allegedly" rendered image in Paint and even though I have removed the background, I still have the image sitting plunk in the middle of a page.

Me very frustrated, Jane.

Is there a way to completely isolate JUST the dialogue bubble - or any single item for that matter - from an image and then export it - SANS BACKGROUND - to another application?

Cheetah, Jane and me be very happy for advice.

Cheers, Bolo.

My first guess would be that the video format these are being imported to do not support transparency, or, the software used for the purpose does not support transparency. Making the dialog balloon is only half the process; I suspect your solution will be in the other half.

Your original image should be a single layer document with alpha channel added to that layer. Right-click on the layer's name in the layers dialog and see of "Add alpha" command is available. If it isn't, you are already good to go.

Then, if you see what I suppose you see, and that is a bubble layer on top of a checkboard pattern, you need to xport this document as PNG to oreserve the alpha channel.

Then use this PNG file in your production.

Actually, i was a stupid suggestion. You can I see p your text and bubble on separate layers in your original XCF document. But make sure the background layer has alpha channel before you renve anything from it, and do export to PNG.

I just made a test with your picture using MAGIX Pro X6. In the attachment you see a single frame of my test-video. As you can see, there is no problem with your image. So I can support what Steve Kinney wrote: your solution will be in the program which you are using to make the video.
