I notice in the style editor above the text on the screen the "up and down" arrow to change the font is missing. Do I have a bad copy of Gimp?

I mean the style editor above text above the text on the canvas.

You have a "good copy" of GIMP, whatever that means :) It's how it works at the moment, although this is debatable, I would dare to say.

Type in the first letter (or two) of the font name and you get a list to choose from:
