Gimpprint and Slackware9.1

Normally I use something like,
lp -s -dZ53a -oraw
as the default print command in gimp.

(my printer is a lexmark Z53 which I have listed 3 times, a, b, c, for 3 different resolutions in cups)

failing that I usually just put kprinter and attempt to use kprinter as the spooler.
This produces a long error message

Cupsdoprint -P 'Z53a' -J '-H 'localhost:631' -U 'root' -o copies=1 etc etc. and something about no filters set.

I cannot get gimp to print at all. Kprinter works for all kde stuff, but not gimp.

What on earth am I doing wrong ?
