Why GIMP is so hard on edges, harsh

I just trying to warp a shape and then what i got is edgy ugly shape. I used Shear tool and Filter->Distort->Curve Bend... to make someting like in this pictures: 1. http://www.photoshop-plus.co.uk/content/tutorials/projector_icon/step04.gif 2. http://www.photoshop-plus.co.uk/content/tutorials/projector_icon/step05.gif 3. http://www.photoshop-plus.co.uk/content/tutorials/projector_icon/step06.gif

Who can make it smooth and explain if it possible
