I am going to prepare an ad for a newspaper, black and white, and would like to know the best way to prepare it from my digital color image. Is there some way to make a half tone? Thank you in advance!

You can convert the image to indexed, choosing a black & white palette. There are several ways you can "dither" greys in the B&W, the default (Floyd Steinberg) might be the best, but you might also try straight "no dithering" to see if you're happy with that result.
