I plan to use Gimp as my preferred tool for picture editing. But then i need another tool for organazing photos with tags and ratings.
What tool do you recommend that mix well with Gimp? For example I want to doubleclick in the organizer tool to start to edit in Gimp.hanSven (via gimpusers.com)

Kphotoalbum (not only image viewer, but image database builder) allows simple or complex searches
WITHOUT modification in original image files...Sorry, not seen "@gnome.org" in gimp-user-list@gnome.org!!!!!

and Windows (not sure about Mac). Full tagging and rating support, as
well as metadata searches. Supports all image formats, including RAW.
And considering the slowdown in development of UFRaw, having a good
RAW developing app can be very helpful. This one supports all current
formats. It also includes tools for doing all kinds of things that
Gimp can't, like exposure blending. For everything else, you just
right-click on the image and select "Edit in Gimp".--

Not using Digikam: no need of a "all-making" tool.
There is Gimp for picture editing.

Versions for most OS's - if using linux, first have a look in your repo otherwise
http://www.xnview.com
There is also a beta XnViewMP, which is excellent.
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=24056As well as tagging, rating and adding to categories you can set Gimp as the default editor and open an image.

the only thing i was thinking, just thought i'd throw it in for my two
cents, was an online system?
like flikr, picassa, or esp. (gad) photoshop.com?
they let you store bigger files.
might want to check it out.

- Surprisingly GIMP 2.6.12 installed for windows with 32 - 64 bits unstable
installer does not read TIFF files
- Also, the first time you are using the tool box, it disappears along with
all other opened one's, then clicking on "files" they reappear and work
properly.I installed 2.6.12 without uninstalling 2.6.11 - 64 bits Shall I clear
everything and proceed with a clean installationThanks and Regards

I understand that I can sell GIMP for a fee if I want, but I am not clear
whether or not I am allowed to use GIMP for commercial / business purposes.
For instance, I want to use GIMP for a job to earn money. Can I use GIMP to
edit photos / graphics as part of a job to earn money? I know that if I
want to use Photoshop to earn money (for commercial purposes), I need to
purchase a license. Can I use GIMP commercially to earn money? I do not
mean earning money in selling the GIMP source code, etc.--I mean using GIMP
as a tool for a job to make money. Thank you in advance for your help.- D
