What do you use for lettering?

The range of fonts and such is pretty extensive in GIMP but naturally I can't
find what I want :-) I'm looking for blocky kind of letters, kinda grafitti.
Anybody know of a library of fonts and letters maybe? Thanks much.....

You certainly seem to be missing something. :) What are you trying to do?

Anyway, you probably want to start by RTFMing here:

I'm trying to either add some of the fonts to GIMP or somehow be able to use
them. I read all through section 6.6, can't seem to learn how to use fonts
that don't exist in GIMP???

Gimp will use fonts installed in your system.

Another site that has truetype fonts galore is

Some of those are quite nice, they work in OOo, and should be usable by gimp
too.

I appreciate that Gene, but how do I get GIMP to import or otherwise make
these fonts available for use? Thanks much for your help....

View where, in the Text tool options, in the fonts folder of your
computer, or on the web?

I did not see in any of your posts what platform you are using; I am on
WIN XP, and besides all fonts installed locally in GIMP, I have access
to all the fonts in the Fonts folder of the OS.

As I mentioned before, Gimp should pick up any fonts that are
installed in the operating system.

I don't understand what that means? How do I get these new fonts into the
operating system? I'm using XP, and sadly am not a computer guru. Could I ask
for perhaps a step by step of how I get a font from this website into my
operating system, then access it using GIMP? I appreciate the time you guys
have spent but my intellect level isn't a high as your's. Thanks.....

If you look at the dafont.com site, the instructions for installing the
fonts are on the home page:

"How to install a font (details in the Help section)
Unzip the files you have downloaded, then:

* Windows 7/Vista: Right-click on the font files > "Install"
* Windows XP: Put the font files into C:\Windows\Fonts
* Mac OS X: Double-click the font file > "Install font" button.
Other OS..."

Those instructions should work with any font you download from any
site. At the dafont.com site, there are more detailed instructions here:

http://www.dafont.com/faq.php

Peace...

Tom

There is a help button at the top right of the main window. Section 5.2 in
my copy describes this and will tell you how to add a new font.

HTH.
