jpeg quality

Two questions regarding jpeg quality settings: 1. Is a setting of 1 truly equal to a lossless jpg? I've read conflicting stories about this - I suspect not.

2. Is file size the only reason not to use quality=1. It still seems like a bargain compared to tif file size.

No.

I think so, too, but it's user-settable.

If you have a colelction of e.g. 2000000 pictures, it's a bargain to use 0.8 or 0.9, too... it all depends on the application and your personal taste.
