Customzing GIMP

Hi,
I have just found GIMP and would need some help with customizing it. What I would like to do is to change the names of some menu items and the Tiltle bar. I am not much of a coder but would need to be directed on the easiest method to adapting it i.e. changing names of menus and title bar.
Thanks,
Gideon

Hi,

I have just found GIMP and would need some help with customizing it. What I would like to do is to change the names of some menu items and the Title bar.

The title bar can be customised from the preferences dialog. You may need to lookup the documentation to find out what the cryptic keywords actually stand for though.

Changing the names of menu items isn't such a good idea and may cause problems explaining what is happening if you need help later. There are ways to do this but they are either ugly or not easy and I would prefer not to suggest them unless you are absolutely sure you need to do it.

What changes do you have in mind?

Sincerely

Thanks Al,

All I really want to do is to hide some menu items (especially when the picture has been opened) and rename some items on the 'Filters' menu. period. I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks, Gideon

Actually, we would be interested in hearing your input on how the menu items can be improved in general. One of the goals for the next version of GIMP is to have better menus.

The definately not recommend but quick and dirty way to change menu lables is to edit the en.po file. There is an XML file you can edit to change the menu layout, you will need to ask nicely or rummage through the archives to get more details (I dont memorize these kinds of details).
