Adjust Hue\Lightness\Saturation tool questions

I've been playing around with the "Adjust Hue\Lightness\Saturation" color tool. However, there are some things that are not behaving the way I expect them to.

1. When adjusting the Red channel by itself, it also adjusts gray colors at the same time. This does not happen with the other channels. Is this a bug?
2. Moving the Lightness slider all the way to 100% or -100% does not make the image perfectly light or dark. I think this is not good behavior, and goes counter to what one should expect. Can this be fixed?
