Problem with backgrounds

Hi, sorry for bothering you!

I've been working with GIMP and trying to remove a background from a picture. I'm pretty sure I've done all of the steps correctly, but once I finish the final step, nothing happens. I posted my problem on Yahoo Answers, and a user told me that it was probably a glitch and I should email here right away.

It would help a lot if you told us what steps exactly they were. I suspect that you were trying to use the Foreground Select tool as per http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-foreground-select.html, were you?
