Right now I'm translating the chapter about the "Histogram dialog".

At a certain point it has been said that the equation to calculate the Value is:

V = (R + G + B)/3

Maybe I'm wrong but I always thought that it was

V = max(R,G,B)

I've tried to check with different tools, the information dialog, the curves tool, etc. and it seems to me that I'm right.

Even the book "Grokking the Gimp" agrees with me.

What do you think about it?

If I'm right and you agree, I can fix just the equation for all the languages (except chinese, sorry ;))
